Mount Pleasant Real Estate Overview

Mount Pleasant Real Estate In High Demand

Mount Pleasant SC Real Estate: Residential Planning
For decades, Mt Pleasant real estate was considered a bedroom community for Charleston. Between 1970 and 1990, the population of Mount Pleasant soared from about 6,000 people to over 30,000 due in large part to the expansion of both the Port of Charleston and the region’s tourism industry. The housing boom was on for Mt Pleasant SC real estate.

Demand for Mt Pleasant real estate continued to grow through the 90s, as the population of Mount Pleasant inched upward. The 2006 estimated census recorded some 59,113 residents, making Mt Pleasant the fifth largest city in South Carolina and ranking it among the fastest growing cities in the United States.

With this growing demand for Mt Pleasant real estate, the estimated median house/condo value in the coveted Mount Pleasant real estate market grew from $185,500 in 2000 to $284,400 in 2005. Despite the national downturn, the Mt Pleasant SC real estate market remains healthy, as evidenced by the number of new home developments currently under construction or set to begin construction within the Mount Pleasant real estate market.

In response to the rapid Mt Pleasant real estate growth and concerns about suburban sprawl and unfettered Mt Pleasant SC real estate development, town leaders initiated subdivision covenants, development restrictions and revitalization projects to help balance the charm of the town’s historic Old Village with the modern urban community growing up around it.

Mount Pleasant managed to esthetically mix a wide array of residential Mt Pleasant real estate options to offer a variety of living options that appeal to nearly every taste and lifestyle.

Mount Pleasant SC Real Estate: Historic Districts and Family Neighborhoods
Also due to Mt Pleasant real estate's rapid growth and expansion, both residential and commercial, the town established the Mount Pleasant Open Space Foundation to preserve the unique landscape and natural beauty that characterizes this East Cooper community as one of the most coveted places to live, work and play in the Southeast. The foundation identifies “passive pockets” or “open spaces” and works to permanently protect these areas.

The original heart of Mount Pleasant, the charming Old Village, is a National Register district. It features exquisite homes from both the colonial and antebellum periods. The grand oak-lined streets are a perfect place for an evening stroll or bike ride with the kids. The Old Village also offers a beautiful public park, a large crabbing and fishing area, and panoramic views of Charleston Harbor.

A multitude of neighborhoods, stretching northward from the Old Village to the edge of the Francis Marion National Forest, provide the ultimate in modern family living. Soccer fields, swimming pools and baseball diamonds, all filled with the sounds of active children, abound.

While Mt Pleasant SC real estate boasts a number of established neighborhoods, construction of homes in new neighborhoods continues.
